Introduction

Paediatric Surgery is a super-specialty that deals with surgery on fetuses, newborn infants, children, and adolescents. At AIIMS Patna, we treat a wide range of paediatric surgical cases in newborns and children. Department’s team is committed to providing high-quality care to the sick children. We are disseminating basic knowledge of paediatric surgical conditions at the tertiary level in order to alleviate the suffering of both patients and their parents. Our goal at AIIMS Patna is to provide the best treatment, patient care, and research in the field of Pediatric Surgery. In this context, specialised procedures such as laparoscopic surgery and thoracoscopic surgery are performed on a regular basis. Endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed on the aerodigestive tract, the genito-urinary tract, and the thoracic cavity. Unborn fetal care is also provided in the form of advice and treatment.

The M.Ch. in Paediatric Surgery programme has begun in the department of Paediatric Surgery. In the coming session, we will begin P.D.C.C. in Neonatal Surgery and Paediatric Urology. The department also raises awareness about surgical conditions in the paediatric population through print and electronic media, as well as through regular awareness camps with the assistance of scientific bodies.

During the reference period, AIIMS Patna was converted to dedicated COVID 19 center, and this had its impact on the performance of department of Paediatric Surgery. There was sharp fall in the number of cases, as children were kept away from the hospital vicinity for the fear of COVID 19 infections.
