Introduction

Pediatric Surgery is the super specialty branch that deals with surgery on fetuses, newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. At the Department of Pediatric Surgery, AIIMS Patna, we treat a wide range of pediatric surgical cases in newborns and children. We also address the issues diagnosed in unborn fetuses during antenatal scans.

At the Department of Pediatric Surgery, we provide services of Neonatal Surgery, Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary Surgery, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Pediatric Thoracic Surgery, and Pediatric Oncosurgery. We are also providing a wide range of services of the Pediatric-MAS (Pediatric-Minimal Access Surgery). MAS procedures like Pediatric Laparoscopy, Pediatric Thoracoscopy, Pediatric cystoscopy, Pediatric Rigid & Flexible Bronchoscopy, Pediatric Upper GI Endoscopy & Pediatric Colonoscopy are routinely done in the Department of Pediatric Surgery. Soon we are starting Pediatric Neuro-Endoscopy services in our department.

Our goal at the Department of Pediatric Surgery is to provide the best treatment, patient care, and Research along with providing an enthusiastic academic atmosphere for MCh trainees. Pediatric Surgical Department’s team is committed to providing high-quality care to sick children. We are disseminating basic knowledge of pediatric surgical conditions at the tertiary level to alleviate the suffering of both patients and their parents.

The Master of Chirurgiae (MCh)- Pediatric Surgery program has begun in the Department of Pediatric Surgery in 2019 and is undergoing in a full-fledged and organized manner. MCh trainees are admitted at the post-MBBS level for 6 years as Junior Residents and at the post-M.S. level for 3 years as Senior Residents. Also, our team is equipped with the services of Post-MCh Senior Residents. In the upcoming session, we are starting Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) programs in Neonatal Surgery & Pediatric Urology.

The department also creates awareness about surgical conditions in the pediatric population through print and electronic media, as well as through awareness camps with the assistance of scientific bodies.
