Gastroenterology was established as a department at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, in February 2018. The department has achieved significant strides in terms of facilities, clinical services, and personnel strength since its inception. The department now comprises two full tenured faculty members, nine resident doctors, and a number of support staff members. At the moment, the gastroenterology department offers a comprehensive variety of clinical services for the management of gastrointestinal, liver, biliary, and pancreatic illnesses. It’s services have expanded to encompass specialised therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma, Budd-Chiari Syndrome, and Angioembolization techniques for gastrointestinal bleeding in collaboration with affiliated departments. The department's faculty members have been involved in research, publication, and teaching. Since January 2021, the department of gastroenterology has been offering a DM programme in gastroenterology.
The department specialises in the treatment of gastrointestinal, liver, and pancreatico-biliary illnesses. The department has its own seminar room for regular instructional programmes.
