Introduction

The department provides basic education in macroscopic human anatomy, microscopic human anatomy or histology, and cell biology for students of medicine and nursing, as well as students of Master’s Degree Programme in Anatomy. Post graduate students from different departments are being taught histology of healthy human tissue. The department is committed to provide embalming services for dead bodies and running the body donation programme. The department receives "Will Forms" from the public for donation of the whole body after death. The department is also an active collaborator for various cadaveric workshops for post-graduate training and skills training in surgical and allied disciplines. The faculty has been engaged in research and have noteworthy research publications in peer-reviewed journals. They have also served as members of editorial boards of several national and international journals. Departmental research is diverse and addresses problems in gross anatomy, histology, developmental biology, neurobiology and genetics.

Both conventional and modern methodology of teaching and learning anatomy is being applied by the department. Modern methodology includes interactive virtual dissection modules, 3D models, objectively structures practical examinations, student seminars and quiz competitions. The faculty members and residents are actively involved in academic activities such as journal club presentations for continued learning. The department oversees the functioning of the 3D Printing Lab on behalf of the Institute which includes 3D printer with space spider 3D scanner and software enabling the production of 3D models that are being utilized by various departments of the Institute for teaching, training as well as health care services.

  • The Department of Anatomy is running an active Voluntary Body Donation Program. Total Six (6) persons have pledged their bodies after death to the Department of Anatomy during this period (01.04.2019 – 31.03.2020)
